Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph (1947–1979)

Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph was an American soul singer and songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You", her five-octave vocal range, and her use of the whistle register.

Early Life

Minnie Julia Riperton was born in Chicago in 1947. She grew up in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. Riperton studied music, drama, and dance at Chicago's Abraham Lincoln Center as a child.
