Roger Corman, director and producer of the film legend, died at the age of 98. He passed away on May 9, as announced by his family.

Corman died at his residence in the Santa Monica area, Calif, surrounded by his family members. His films were revolutionary and iconoclastic, reflecting the spirit of the times. When asked how he wants to be remembered, he said, "I am a filmmaker, that's all," the family told Variety today, Monday, May 13.

Roger Corman was the figure behind New World Pictures and Concorde/New Horizons. He was one of the pioneers of low-budget films with various genres ranging from horror, action, science fiction, to family themes. He was also instrumental in developing various film talents including director Jack Nicholson, Robert de Niro, Francis Ford Coppola, and Martin Scorsese.

At the beginning of their careers, Coppola and James Cameron made films for Corman. Coppola also cast Corman in a cameo role in The Godfather Part II. Overseeing more than 70 films and nurturing 300 new talents, Roger Corman began his career independently.

This year, he was announced, along with Joe Dante and Brad Krevoy, to be planning a reboot of the film Little Ship of Halloween Horrors, a classic film by Corman. The original film was made in two days using the set from a previous film, A Bucket of Blood. This news brings sorrow to the world of cinema, especially for directors who began their careers with Corman and his production house.

One of them is John Carpenter, who considers Corman the most influential director of his life. Through a personal tweet, he wrote, "Fortunate to have known him, as a good friend. He shaped my childhood with science fiction and Edgar Allan Poe."
